After a great weekend in Vegas, where my cousin graduated Valedictorian from her high school and is going to be a freshman at Georgetown in the Fall [so proud :*) ], I come back to Chicago to welcome an old friend hailing from Munich, Germany – Mr. Julian Cattanei. We were classmates in our masters program in England, having been 4 years since I last saw him. He decided to take a tour of the US this summer, stopping in NYC then Chicago and finishing the trip with his gf in California.
What a fun-filled 5 days of fun with Julian! From taking him to our local beach along the lake to seeing the skyscrapers in the loop area to enjoying the art in Millennium Park (Amphitheatre, the Bean…), I tried to have him live the life as a Midwesterner (or at least a Chicagoan). We even had him play kickball with our team – he managed to get out 4 times and do a backflip as he missed a pop-fly, but he did kick the ball with a lot of power. Oh and we did our fair share of drinking at such places like Benchmark, Sheffield’s, Map room, The Roof at the Wit, and Huettenbar. And finally we really experienced Midwest living by going to the Ribfest festival. Oh yeah!
It’s crazy to think that even after 4 years of not seeing each other, the moment we reacquainted ourselves, it was like old times. I forgot how much of a friend he was and I will def. need to go back to Europe to see him and all my old friends from grad school! Have fun in Cali you crazy German!
